Proof that SOAP is needed

Posted in Articles | Comments closed

Saw this article that Hotels are now becoming the New trafficking locations. (yea, we Knew this!) But always nice to see in print. Girls are being taken to motels to ‘service’ men. They rent the hotel room, keep it all night and use it repeatedly until they make their ‘quota’ and return to their pimp. they usually are very transient and taken to many cities by their pimp and stay at cheap motels as well. We need to get SOAP out to these places so we can rescue them from this hell.http://www.hotelnewsnow.com/Articles.aspx/6219/Hotels-are-hub-of-human-trafficking-prevention

Help make “The Slave Across the Street” into a movie

Posted in Books, Video | Comments closed

Well, that still has yet to be a movie abuot how American girls are targeted, tricked and ensnared into the evil world of human trafficking, right here in the U.S.!! Sure, there are a few movies on how girls are trafficked in South America, Asia and Africa. Movies on people being trafficked from other countries here into the US. and even a good one on two American girls being trafficked in Europe. But NONE on how it happens right here, to normal, middle class, suburban youth!
Help me change that!

I need 1,000 people to donate $50! That’s it! Tha’ts the same number of youth being trafficked right here in Ohio, this very minute!

Its simple, click on the DONATE button or send in a check. It’s tax deductible. Help make History. You can also see a video on it a http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1916700672/the-first-feature-film-on-human-trafficking-within?ref=live

Recent Speaking event

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments closed

Last week I was honored to be included amongst esteemed leaders and speak at the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Conference. Wow. My grandpa would have been so proud of me. Who would have ever thought?! But then again, who would have ever thought it could have happened to Me? Kinda a full circle moment.

The judges were so receptive and I think they really appreciated hearing information on this critical issue! Hopefully it will pave the way awareness on domestic minor sex trafficking!

SOAP at the Memorial Golf Tournament

Posted in S.O.A.P. | Comments closed

On May 31st, we SOAPed up the Memorial Golf Tournament. Zonta of Columbus donated 4,000 bars of soap and volunteers from the organization spent several hours labeling the bars with the National Trafficking Hotline Number. Then we offered them to motels near strip clubs near the Muirfield Golf Course where the Tournament is taking place this week. It was a huge success. Now lets hope we save some girls!

Truckers Against Trafficking

Posted in Articles | Comments closed

Just wanted to share with you the excellent article in the magazine (Challenge) published monthly by Pilot truck stops/travel plazas about Truckers Against Trafficking.

My understanding is that next to the independently owned truck stops/travel plazas across the country, Pilot is second in number of locations. We’re in hopes they’ll soon decide, as TA/Petro has done, to use TAT materials as part of training for their employees and to suggest to their fleet customers that they do the same.

Blessings,
Lyn Thompson

The Slave Across The Street

While more and more people each day become aware of the dangerous world of human trafficking, most people in the U.S. still believe this is something that happens to foreign women, men and children–not something that happens to their own.

In this powerful true story, Theresa Flores shares how her life as an All-American, blue-eyed, blond-haired 15-year-old teenager who could have been your neighbor was enslaved into the dangerous world of sex trafficking while living in an upper-middle class suburb of Detroit. Her story peels the cover off of this horrific criminal activity and gives dedicated activists as well as casual bystanders a glimpse into the underbelly of trafficking. And it all happened while living at home without her parents ever knowing about it. Involuntarily involved in a large underground criminal ring, Ms. Flores endured more as a child than most adults will ever face their entire lives.

In this book, Ms. Flores discusses how she healed the wounds of sexual servitude and offers advice to parents and professionals on preventing this from occurring again, educating and presenting significant facts on human trafficking in modern day American.

About the Author
Ms. Flores has been a licensed social worker in Ohio for nearly 20 years. She received a Bachelor s in Social Work from Ball State University in Indiana and a Master s in Counseling Education from the University of Dayton as a Human Development Specialist. She is featured by the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Museum in a traveling exhibit entitled, Invisible Slavery. She lectures internationally on human trafficking and currently works for Gracehaven House, a therapeutic, long term home being built for young girls under the age of 18 who have been victimized by domestic sexual exploitation.

She has made it her mission to bring awareness to the subject of human trafficking so that other young girls never have to endure what she did in silence. She was a guest speaker at the Child Slavery Now conference in Hull, England at the Wilberforce Institute for the Study of Slavery and Emancipation and has been featured on MSNBC/The Today Show in an investigative series called Sex Slaves: The Teen Trade.
